The India-UK Sports Alliance is set up by the British Government to help develop stronger ties with India in the sports sector. Launched in 2019, during the Cricket World Cup, the Alliance brings together leaders and influencers from both countries to identify areas of collaboration and business for mutual benefit.

The PL and ISL Mutual Cooperation agreement is at the heart of the India-UK Sports Alliance, and the objective of the Alliance is to promote many more such mutually beneficial relationships between sporting bodies, government departments and businesses.

A recent example of such a partnership facilitated by the British Government as part of the Alliance, is that the Liverpool Football Club and Pearson jointly won a contract to deliver a sports management course for the All-India Football Federation.

The UK’s Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Sport and Tourism  Nigel Huddleston and India’s Minister of State of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, also exchanged notes and agreed to work towards stronger sporting relationship between the two countries at an industry event last week.

With the sports sectors in both countries heavily impacted in the wake of the pandemic, the India-UK Sports Alliance will continue to work with stakeholders on both sides to help tackle the harshest of challenges and leverage new opportunities.
